The first photos of the much anticipated costumes from the movie “NINE” has been released. Academy Award winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha) collaborated with Swarovski on “NINE” to create a show stopping spectacle that sparkles throughout. Over 1 million CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements are used to embellish the costumes of the all star cast.  Over thirty-six costumes were crystallized, including a crystal mesh dress worn by Kate Hudson, a basque worn by Penélope Cruz, an evening dress worn by Nicole Kidman and twenty-five showgirl outfits in the Folies Bergeres number. The dazzling costumes feature 9 different crystal applications in 31 styles and 22 various colours.

Rob Marshall, Oscar nominated director of Chicago, presents NINE, a vibrant and provocative musical that follows the life of world famous film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion, while balancing the numerous women in his life including his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penelope Cruz), his film star muse (Nicole Kidman), his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), a young American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson), the whore from his youth (Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson) and his mother (Sophia Loren). The original 1982 Broadway production of “NINE,” won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The 2003 Broadway revival of “NINE” won two Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical.

“NINE” opens in theaters on November 25.

Additionally, if you are selected to be in the cast, you may be needed for preparatory appointments between Tuesday, October 6th – Sunday, October 11th, and you will need to be available to the production from October 12th, 2009 – January 3rd, 2010 and reside in Los Angeles or vicinity during that time. In addition, if you are selected to be in the cast, you will be required to enter into an Actor’s Equity Association contract with the production, and you may be required to become a member of Actor’s Equity Association.

Sleeping Beauty inspires a new Broadway musical

The Associated Press is reporting that a new musical is in the works inspired by the tale “Sleeping Beauty”.

Regina Spektor has set her sights on Broadway – writing the music for a show inspired by “Sleeping Beauty.”

Elephant Eye Theatricals says that  singer-songwriter Regina Spektor will collaborate on the music on musical  called “Beauty” . “Beauty” is described as a contemporary retelling of the Grimm fairy tale.

It’s tentatively planned for the 2011-2012 Broadway season.

“Beauty” will feature book and direction by Tina Landau and lyrics by Michael Korie.

Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel Welcome First Child

People Magazine is reporting that actors Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel welcomed their child, a son named Walker, earlier this week. The couple, who met on the original production of RENT and starred in the film are said to be doing well and are happy that their son is doing well. Diggs can be seen on ABC’s Private Practice which returns with all new episodes starting Thursday, October 1.

Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 to end Broadway Run in September

“9 to 5: The Musical,” the Broadway based on the hit movie of the same name will end it’s Broadway run in September. The musical, nominated for multiple Tony awards, has played for four months. Country superstar, Dolly Parton, who starred in the movie and who wrote and sang the title song, wrote the musical’s  score. Though the show will end on Broadway, it is possible that it will still tour the country. Parton said in a statement, “I can’t wait for this show to hit the road so people across the country can see why I’m so proud of everyone involved,” she said. “And I’m so pleased that we’ll be opening the tour in Nashville. Great things happen in Nashville.”
